Rebuilding a More Resilient and Sustainable Society Post-COVID | A Green Restart

As of March 1, 2022, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Infectious Diseases (IATF) approved the observation of the lowest level of health restrictions, placing NCR and 38 other regions (including Laguna) under Alert Level 1.

Two years have passed since the start of the pandemic, and while the population is still advised to be careful, we’re now getting glimpses of what it’s like to fully shift into the new normal, and fully “living with the virus”.

We are moving into our new normal. Our next normal. And as we return outside and catch up on what we missed in the past two years, we beg to ask the question: As we move forward and recover from the impact of going through a global crisis, how can we rebuild a more resilient and sustainable foundation for our society?

Going Green vs. The Economic Impact of COVID-19

According to a study conducted by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Caltech, in 2020, global CO2 emissions declined by 5.4%, with a record of 1.9 gigatonnes (Gt), as countries and economies faced the implications and interventions to deal with COVID-19.

And with the economy recovering, the International Energy Association reports that the energy combustion and industrial processes rebounded in 2021, and pushed global CO2 emissions to 36.3 gigatonnes (Gt), a 6% increase from 2020.

From these data, we have proof that we can make adjustments to help decrease our CO2 emissions. We just need to know how.

The Green Restart

We are now paving the way towards rebuilding society. To fortify our resilience against future crises, we need to further drive climate action as we re-energize our economy. A green restart. And the opportunity to go green is here.

The Green Restart is an initiative from Danfoss showcasing how we can accelerate the pace of economic recovery and generate sustainable growth, by working together towards a decarbonized future.

As early as 2006, the road to carbon neutrality has been in the works, and since then, multiple efforts and solutions have been developed and established as a holistic approach when dealing with and mitigating climate change.

Now, we need to take charge of driving climate action, while re-energizing our economy. And we can do this with energy-efficient solutions.

Referencing Danfoss’ White Paper on the Green Restart, by switching to more energy-efficient solutions, we reduce our overall need for energy – and reduce the need for extra capacity and investments in renewables. This is the cheapest and most efficient path to long-term success.

With energy-efficient solutions, we can focus on sustainably rebuilding our economy– we can create more jobs while simultaneously fighting climate change.

There is real potential in terms of creating new jobs, economic savings, competitiveness, and market opportunities – together with improved well-being for people all over the world.

Energy-Efficient Solutions at the Palm of Your Hand

With all that is and was said about the potential and benefits of energy solutions, we go back to our first question: How?

How can we make adjustments to help decrease our CO2 emissions? How can we contribute to rebuilding our economy sustainably? For a resilient future?

1. Go Digital and Measure What is Essential.

Optimizing power reliability, reducing energy costs, and increasing operational efficiency in critical power environments becomes more challenging with how the landscape of how energy is used and managed keeps changing.

With the challenges planners face in managing their facilities (such as a more dynamic grid, more complex power distribution systems, more competitive forces and shareholder pressure, more regulatory requirements (i.e. RA 11285), more cyberattacks), ensuring that our facilities have a reliable and efficient energy supply requires new kinds of power management tools that deliver the following:

  • Connected intelligence to reveal every risk and opportunity your facility might face

  • Highest possible metering accuracy for greater precision and certainty

  • Modular, customizable platforms that adapt to your changing needs

  • Cybersecurity practices that best protect your power network

  • Simplified power quality analysis that uses embedded intelligence

  • Smart power event analysis that reduces response time.

With Optimum Electrokonsult, you can upgrade your energy management systems and save up to 10% of your total electricity consumption.

2. Invest in Smart Solutions to Make More With Less.

We rely on our equipment to deliver. The things we produce and consume come from countless processes, utilizing resources, working together like clockwork.

To make more with less, we have to invest in smart technology to optimize our processes and make them more efficient.

With Optimum Electrokonsult, you can reduce 20% of your energy consumption with Variable Speed Drives.

You can maximize your motor and equipment’s lifetime, and avoid downtime with Softstarters.

And with Danfoss' EC+ Efficiency Equation, we can help you build a system that accounts for increasing your energy savings in your ventilation systems, fans, controls, and motors.

3. Transition to Renewables.

Apart from adopting smart technology, we invite you to adopt clean technology. To contribute to decarbonizing energy, you can employ renewable energy sources for your processes.

With Optimum Electrokonsult, you can install solar panel systems, hybrid systems with PV panels and storage batteries, or integrate systems that help you provide local or plantwide power backup, peak-shaving capabilities, and help you improve power quality and reliability.

Achieving Sustainable Recovery and Growth

We are given the chance to build a more resilient and sustainable economy. We can take action to contribute toward reducing our carbon footprint while recovering from our losses during the pandemic. The opportunity is here and the solutions are present. All we need to do is make it happen.
